BEACHWOOD, Ohio —
Theft by deception: Blossom Lane
At 2:50 p.m. March 9, a Beachwood woman, 70, reported that she was the victim of an online scam. The woman was contacted by someone fraudulently claiming to be a representative of the electric company.
The caller stated that the woman was behind in her bill payment and that her electric service would be cut off if she didn’t immediately pay. The woman was instructed to purchase PayPal gift cards and give the number on the cards to the caller. The woman did as told and lost $480.19.
Auto theft: Chagrin Boulevard
At 10:45 a.m. March 9, a Beachwood man, 33, reported that his car was stolen, with its key, from the lot of The Vue apartments, 23220 Chagrin Blvd. The man told police he was working out at the apartment and left his key in the cupholder of a treadmill.
Domestic violence: Green Road
At 2:25 a.m. March 10, a Beachwood woman, 20, reported that she had been hit while in her apartment by her boyfriend, a Beachwood man, 20. The man left the scene before the woman called police. Police are investigating.
Family offense: Cedar Road
At 8:40 p.m. March 10, a boy, 14, was seen walking on Cedar Road, at Richmond Road, wearing only socks, shorts and a t-shirt, and wrapped in a blanket. Police investigated and learned that the boy was walking to the police station to report that his mother had hit him with a stick. Police are investigating.
Theft: Green Road
At 12:40 p.m. March 11, a Beachwood man, 70, reported that two checks that he had mailed at the post office, 3695 Green Road, had been stolen from the mailbox. The checks were made out for $1,400 and $209.
Criminal damage: Chagrin Boulevard
At 7:50 a.m. March 11, a Beachwood man, 43, reported that someone broke the window of his car while it was parked in the lot of The Vue apartments, and stole property worth a total value of $1,200. Of that amount, $500 was in cash.
Disorderly conduct: Cedar Road
At 5:20 p.m. March 11, a Cleveland Heights man, 19, became embroiled in a dispute with employees at a store at Beachwood Place mall, 26300 Cedar Road. An argument began over a pair of shoes for sale in the store.
The man became hostile and refused to leave the store. Police arrested the man on a charge of disorderly conduct.
Theft by deception: Green Road
At 3:10 p.m. March 11, a Beachwood woman, 78, lost $1,600 in an online scam in which someone claimed to be an Apple representative.
Carrying a concealed weapon: Cedar Road
At 7 p.m. March 11, police were monitoring cars in the Beachwood Place lot for possible registration violations. Inside one unoccupied car, an officer saw a gun. Police waited for the car’s occupants to return and ended up arresting two men on charges of felony carrying a concealed weapon, having weapons under disability, and marijuana possession.
A K-9 was brought to the car and during a search turned up a second gun and the marijuana. Charged were a Cleveland man, 23, and a Maple Heights man, 30.
Theft: Cedar Road
At 3:45 p.m. March 12, police arrested a Cleveland Heights man, 25, for stealing merchandise valued at $42.50 from Dillard’s at Beachwood Place.
At 12:15 a.m. March 13, an officer stopped for speeding a car that had just entered the southbound I-271 entrance ramp from Chagrin Boulevard. The driver, a Cleveland man, 39, was found to be intoxicated.
Police charged the man with OVI, speeding and refusal of a breath test with a prior OVI arrest on his record.
