Most bettors are disappointed to find out they can’t bet horse racing through sportsbooks like FanDuel.

However, FanDuel actually owns and operates a separate horse racing product — FanDuel Racing. It’s available in 31 states.

FanDuel Group owns TVG, the horse racing TV and streaming network that also operates a horse betting platform (which will soon be renamed FanDuel TV, the first watch and wager TV Network in the US).

But FanDuel launched its own racing product, leveraging its strong history in DFS and sports betting products to create the best horse wagering experience possible.

Deposit Methods

  • Online Bank Transfer: Like sports betting deposits, online bank transfers are often the easiest method. You’ll just need to login to your bank account and FanDuel will connect to it via a third-party service like Plaid.
  • Credit or Debit Card: Some credit card companies don’t allow real-money gambling deposits, so double check that your bank does.
  • FanDuel Prepaid Card: FanDuel sells prepaid debit cards — like the Visa gift cards you can get at convenience stores.
  • PayPal: PayPal is a good option if your credit cards don’t allow you to deposit.
  • ACH (E-Check): This is a method where you’ll need to provide a few banking details and then you’ll be able to send an e-check.
  • Wire Transfer: A wire will allow you to send large sums of money by putting in a few key details, but you have to be careful everything is correct.
  • Cash: You can deposit with cash in person at a FanDuel Sportsbook.

FanDuel Racing User Experience & Review

FanDuel Racing’s app and web product aren’t quite as strong as its sports betting and DFS products, but you’ll get a lot of the same experience if you’re accustomed to betting sports there.

What sets FanDuel Racing apart is how simple and intuitive it is. Horse racing terms can be confusing, and these betting platforms don’t always do a great job of making it easy for new horse bettors.

One nice feature is listing the prices in American odds below the traditional fractional odds.

Simplifying Complex Terms

Another benefit is that FanDuel Racing takes confusing bet types like trifectas and superfectas and simplifies them to what they really are. It may be slightly unusual for experienced horse bettors, but it is great for beginners. And experienced bettors will figure this out much quicker than new bettors would figure out traditional terminology.

For example: A trifecta requires bettors to pick the top three horses in a race for a potentially big payout. You can also create a trifecta box, which still asks you to pick the top three horses, but automatically creates all the possible combinations of finishing orders. You’d have six total trifecta bets if you do all the combinations of three horses.

At FanDuel, it gives you the option to pick “any” spot for each horse, and that’s how it creates the trifecta box. With what would be called a “key” at most other racebooks, you can pick a horse to finish first, then box the other spots together using the “Any” buttons.

In this July 21 race at Delaware Park, I’ve wagered favorite Mission Canyon to finish first, and then created all the possible combinations of The Monk, Tucker Road and Out of Towner to finish in spots 2-3.

That creates 12 total bets that I wagered $.50 each on. If I nail the exact finishing order with Mission Canyon finishing first and any two of those three horses finishing second or third, I’ll cash the exacta bet.

Another example: The Pick 3 is confusing to some users — it requires you to pick the winner of the next three races. Once you click it for one race and select your horse, FanDuel will take you to the next race, then to the third race.

Clear Results

After the race, FanDuel’s results page is simple yet effective.

It lists the payouts for the winner, second and third place, then the payouts for exotic bets like the exacta, trifecta, superfecta, daily double and Pick 3.

Sorting by Favorites

In sports betting, futures odds are in order of likelihood. The favorites are at the top, and it goes down from there.

Many horsebooks will list the horses by their number in the race, which can be a little confusing. FanDuel lists the horses by their odds, with the favorites at the top.

Watch Races Live

Like many racing products, the betting and viewing experiences are integrated. We’re not quite there with sports betting yet.

Right in the FanDuel racing app, you can watch many of the races you bet on.

Which Tracks Are Available at FanDuel Racing?

FanDuel Racing offers pretty much every track where there are horse races and odds, even outside the United States. It’s on par with its competitors in terms of offerings.

FanDuel offers races at hundreds of tracks, including:

  • Aqueduct Racetrack
  • Belmont Park
  • Churchill Downs Racetrack
  • Del Mar Racing
  • Epsom Downs
  • Flemington Racecourse
  • Gulfstream Park
  • Keeneland Race Course
  • Laurel Park
  • Monmouth Park Racetrack
  • Santa Anita Park
  • Saratoga Race Course
  • Tampa Bay Downs
  • Toyko Racecourse

What’s the Minimum Age for FanDuel Racing?

Unlike sports betting, the minimum age for horse racing in most states is 18.

You can bet at FanDuel Racing at 18 unless you’re in Arizona, Indiana, Iowa, North Dakota or Washington, which have a minimum age of 21.
